SFT
What is SFT (Super Fine TFT)?
SFT is a technology from Tianma, enabling a wide viewing angle without significant change of brightness or colour. Viewing angles of typically 88 degrees in any direction can be achieved.
The technology behind SFT:
In many LCD panels the electric field (the “switching voltage”) is applied to the cells in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the panel. The liquid crystals are aligning in the same direction. Brightness and colour are changing with viewing angle.
In SFT panels the electric field is applied parallel to the surface. The liquid crystal molecules align parallel as well. There is no dependency of brightness or colour from viewing angle.
Advantages from SFT:
Large viewing angle without significant change in brightness or colour. Stable gray scales over viewing angle.
EVT
What is EVT* ?
EVT is a technology from Tianma, enabling high readability of the display even in bright sunlight.
The technologies behind EVT:
Reflective EVT (R-EVT)
Bright light environment:
- Ambient light serves as the light source
- The backlight is off
Weak light environment:
- The backlight is on and serves as the light source
An LCD based on R-EVT is an ideal device for battery operated applications, either indoors or outdoors.
Transmissive EVT (T-EVT)
Sunlight environment:
- The anti-reflection coating leads to a significant reduction
of reflections - A high brightness backlight is used
Weak light environment:
- The backlight is on and serves as the light source
An LCD based on T-EVT is ideal for usage under bright sunlight conditions.
Advantages from EVT:
Excellent outdoor readability, even under bright sunlight, low power consumption (R-EVT).
